As is typical of ebony, the wood is very hard, heavy, and very dense. This rare species is highly sought after in arts and crafts, knife making, and furniture making—for example, as veneer—as well as in woodturning due to its distinctive grain pattern. It is also used as a high-quality and decorative material for knife handles and pens. It resembles Makassar ebony but has a significantly lighter base color.
The light-colored wood often exhibits insect holes, and hairline cracks are also not uncommon.
